A clear hotel job post template saves you time and brings in better candidates. When a job post is vague, you get hundreds of unsuitable applications and still miss the people you need. When it is specific, honest and easy to read on a phone, the right chefs, stewards, receptionists and housekeepers apply, and the wrong ones skip it.

This guide is for hotel owners, HR teams and department heads. It explains what to include in a hotel job post, gives you a free template to copy, and shows how to post your vacancies yourself, free, on Hospitality Vacancy, a free job website and job portal for hotel and hospitality jobs.

Why most hotel job posts fail

  • Unclear job title: "Staff required" or "Hotel boy" tells a candidate nothing about the role or level.

  • No location: candidates want to know the city and property before they apply.

  • Missing pay information: many good candidates skip posts that hide all pay details.

  • Long lists of demands: ten "must haves" for an entry-level job scare away good freshers.

  • No benefits: food, accommodation, uniforms and days off matter a lot in hotels.

  • No next step: candidates do not know how or when they will hear back.

What to include in every hotel job post template

1. A precise job title

Use the title candidates search for, with the level: "Commis II โ€“ Continental Kitchen", "Front Office Associate", "Room Attendant", "F&B Captain". Avoid internal codes or creative titles.

2. Property and location

Name the hotel or group (or describe it, if confidential), its type and star category, and the exact city or area. For resorts in remote places, say so clearly.

3. A short "about the role" summary

Two or three lines about the department, the outlet and why the role matters.

4. Key responsibilities

Five to eight bullet points that describe the real daily work. Start each line with an action word: "prepare", "serve", "welcome", "clean", "supervise".

5. Requirements: must-have vs good-to-have

Split the list. Keep must-haves short and realistic (for example, "1 year in a hotel kitchen" or "basic spoken English"). Put extras such as a second cuisine or a particular software under "good to have".

6. Pay and benefits

Share a pay range or at least the main benefits: meals on duty, staff accommodation, uniforms and laundry, weekly off, medical cover, service charge, or a joining date. Be accurate; candidates will check at the interview.

7. Shift pattern and working days

Hotels run every day. Say whether the role has rotating shifts, split shifts or night duty, and how many days off per week.

8. How to apply and what happens next

Tell candidates how the process works: shortlisting, a phone or video round, a trade test, and a final interview. Say roughly how soon you will respond.

  • We offer: meals on duty, shared staff accommodation, uniforms, one weekly off

  • Process: phone round, trade test, interview with the Executive Chef

Notice how a candidate can decide in under a minute whether the job suits them. That is the goal of a good hotel job post template.

Ready-made responsibility lists by department

Use these lists as a starting point for the "What you will do" section, then edit them to match your property.

Front Office Associate

  • Welcome guests and handle check-in and check-out

  • Manage reservations and room allocation on the property management system

  • Answer guest calls, emails and requests politely and quickly

  • Coordinate with housekeeping, engineering and F&B for guest needs

  • Handle guest feedback and pass complaints to the duty manager

Room Attendant

  • Clean and prepare guest rooms and bathrooms to hotel standards

  • Replace linen, towels and amenities, and report shortages

  • Report maintenance issues and lost-and-found items promptly

  • Follow safety rules when using cleaning chemicals and equipment

Steward / Waiter

  • Set up the restaurant or banquet hall before service

  • Take orders, explain the menu and serve food and beverages

  • Clear tables and maintain hygiene in the service area

  • Support the captain during busy periods and events

Short, real duties like these help candidates picture the job and judge honestly whether they are ready for it. That means fewer no-shows at interviews and better hires for your team.

Writing tips that attract better candidates

  • Write for a phone screen. Most hotel candidates read job posts on mobile. Use short lines and bullets.

  • Use simple English. Avoid long sentences and jargon. Many great staff speak English as a second or third language.

  • Be inclusive. Write "Room Attendant" instead of "housekeeping boy", and avoid age or appearance limits that the role does not need.

  • Welcome freshers where you can. Many hotels grow loyal teams by hiring freshers and training them. See our guide to hotel jobs for freshers in India to understand what beginners look for.

  • Prepare interview questions early. Our guide to hotel front office interview questions shows the kind of questions candidates expect.

  • Keep the post updated. Close or remove a post once the role is filled, so candidates do not waste time.

Food safety and compliance basics

For kitchen and F&B roles, mention food safety training as a plus. FSSAI runs the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme for food businesses, which you can also use to train your own team.

Never ask candidates to pay to apply or to attend an interview. The Government of India's National Career Service portal reminds jobseekers that they should not pay fees to employers, and serious candidates avoid job posts that ask for money.

If you hire for the UAE, note that the official UAE government portal says a job offer must be in Arabic and English and in a third language the worker understands. Check the hiring rules of each country where you recruit.

Mistakes to avoid in a hotel job post

  • Copying the same text for every role and level

  • Asking for "5 years' experience" for an entry-level job

  • Hiding the location or the hotel type

  • Promising benefits you cannot give

  • Leaving out how and when candidates will hear back

  • Writing everything in capital letters
