Hotel jobs in Dubai attract thousands of cooks, stewards, receptionists, housekeepers and waiters from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan every year. Most offers are real, but fake offers and illegal agents also target people who are in a hurry to fly. A few simple checks, done before you pay anyone or book a ticket, can protect your money, your passport and your career.

This guide explains, step by step, how to check your offer letter, your work permit and entry permit, and your agent, using only official UAE and Indian government websites. It also shows how to find and apply for jobs free on Hospitality Vacancy, a free job website for hotel and hospitality jobs.
How hiring for hotel jobs in Dubai works
The official UAE government portal, u.ae, describes the private-sector hiring process in this order:
Job offer. The employer prepares a formal job offer and signs it electronically.
You sign the offer. It is sent to you in your home country, directly or through a recruitment agency, for review and signature.
Work permit approval. The signed offer is attached to the employer's application for an initial work permit with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
Entry permit. The employer sends you an electronic entry permit for employment so you can enter the UAE.
Contract and visa. After you arrive, the offer is registered with MoHRE as your employment contract, and your residence visa is processed inside the UAE.
You can read this process yourself on the u.ae page about job offers and the employment process. If someone tells you a very different story, for example that you can fly on a tourist visa and "convert it later", treat that as a warning sign.
Step 1: Check your offer letter
The offer letter is the most important document for any of the hotel jobs in Dubai you apply for. The UAE government's page on tips to stay safe from labour and visa fraud says that if you are offered a job in the UAE, you must get an offer letter issued through MoHRE and signed by the authorised manager.
What a proper offer should contain
Languages: according to u.ae, the job offer must be in Arabic and English, and also in a third language that the worker understands.
Your job details: job title, workplace, start date, contract duration and salary, with the terms and conditions of employment.
Labour law annex: u.ae says the offer must come with an annex that outlines the provisions of the UAE Labour Law.
Employer signature: the employer signs the offer electronically.
A reference number: you need this to check the offer online.
How to verify the offer
The u.ae fraud page says you can verify the validity of a job offer using its reference number through the "application status" enquiry service on the MoHRE website. Do this yourself. Do not rely on a screenshot sent by the agent.
Also read every line before you sign. u.ae explains that once the contract is signed, the employer cannot replace or change its terms unless you agree, your rights are not reduced and MoHRE approves the change. If anyone asks you to sign a new paper on arrival with lower terms, do not sign it and contact MoHRE.
Step 2: Check the company
A real offer comes from a real, licensed business. The u.ae fraud page advises you to make sure the company legally exists by searching its English and Arabic name in the UAE National Economic Register.
Search the hotel or company name exactly as it appears on your offer.
Compare the address and company name with the hotel's own official website.
Be careful if emails come from free email accounts instead of the hotel's own domain.
Be careful if the hotel name is famous but the contact person refuses video calls or a proper interview.
Step 3: Check your work permit and entry permit
After you sign the offer, the employer applies for your work permit and sends you an electronic entry permit for employment. The u.ae fraud page lists where to check an entry permit:
Issued in Dubai: check it on the website of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, GDRFA Dubai.
Issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah: check it on the eChannels platform of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, ICP.
Never work on a visit or tourist visa
The UAE government is clear: a visit or tourist visa does not give you the right to work in the UAE, and working on one can lead to fines and legal liability. The u.ae page on the UAE work visa also says that the employer must apply for the standard work visa. u.ae adds that a residence visa cannot be processed while you are outside the UAE; you first enter with a valid entry permit.
Step 4: Know who pays for recruitment
This is where many workers lose money. According to the u.ae fraud page, the employer is responsible for paying recruitment expenses under the UAE Labour Law. If someone asks you for money for a "visa fee", "work permit fee" or "job confirmation fee" for a UAE job, stop and check before you pay anything.
Step 5: Indian workers โ check emigration clearance (ECR)
If you hold an Indian passport, look at whether it is marked ECR (Emigration Check Required). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has explained that ECR passport holders and nurses travelling for work to 18 notified countries, including the United Arab Emirates, must obtain emigration clearance through the eMigrate system. Non-ECR passport holders may register voluntarily. You can read this in the MEA's clarification on the 18 ECR countries.
The other ECR countries named by the MEA are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Thailand and Yemen. So the same check applies to many Gulf hotel jobs, not only Dubai.
Step 6: Check your recruiting agent in India
If an agent in India is handling your job, check that the agent is registered. In a reply to Parliament, the MEA explained that under Section 10 of the Emigration Act, 1983, no person or agency can work as a Recruiting Agent without a valid Registration Certificate issued by the Protector General of Emigrants. The same reply says registration is done through the eMigrate portal and that the Ministry publishes a list of unregistered agents there. You can read it in the MEA's answer on monitoring of recruiting agencies.
Search the agent's name and registration number on eMigrate.
Check the list of unregistered agents on the same portal.
The MEA's reply also says a registered agent cannot collect more than the prescribed service charge and must give you a receipt for what it collects. Always ask for a receipt.
Never hand over your original passport to someone you cannot verify.
Red flags to watch for
You got the offer without any interview or trade test.
You are asked to pay large amounts in cash or to a personal account.
The offer has no MoHRE reference number, or the number does not show up on MoHRE.
You are told to travel on a visit visa and "start working straight away".
The agent's name is not on eMigrate, or appears on the unregistered list.
You are pressured to decide "today only".
